DSM Tests

The DSM tests are segregated into two stages. The first stage of tests is based on 'CIBSE TM33: 2006 - Test for software accreditation and verification' and the vendors will need to refer to this document for more information. The tests cover aspects of the software calculation engine and assess the algorithm performance and compliance with published standards.

The validation process requires DSM outputs to be produced in accordance with the format outline in CIBSE TM33 and other accompanying documents and should agree with reference outputs within the stated stringent error margins.

In the second stage, a set of cases study models has been set-up, referred to as the Enhanced Test Models. This set of tests interrogates the software's modelling of the notional and reference buildings, checking against guidelines and specifications. This stage requires a vendor representative to attend a meeting with Faber Maunsell to facilitate live assessment and demonstration of the software undergoing these tests. A total of around ten permutations of five building types are considered and are summarised in the following table:

Test Description
Case 1 Small shallow-planned office, naturally-ventilated as the notional building
Case 2 Small shallow-planned office, mechanically ventilated as the notional building
Case 3 Large deep-planned office, air-conditioned as the notional building
Case 4 Hotel as the notional building
Case 5 School as the notional building
Case 6 Retail unit as the notional building
Case 7 Office as the notional building but with Photo-voltaic panels
Case 8 Hotel as the notional building with Solar Thermal Heating and Wind Turbine
Case 9 Small shallow-plan office as the reference building
Case 10 Retail unit as the reference building
